The season finale of The Gruen Transfer last week on the ABC spelt disappointment for over a million fans who tuned in religiously for their weekly fix of Will Anderson and his expert panel dissecting the guts of advertising.
Throughout the season, Anderson was joined weekly by marketing Gurus Todd Sampson and Russell Howcroft, along with other brilliant minds from the advertising industry as guest panelists. These popular and down-to-earth personalities contributed to the show’s success throughout its second season.
The intelligent insights offered by these industry experts were communicated straight into living rooms through a relaxed manner of conversation and banter as they debated the strategies behind, and judged the outcomes of, wacky ads from around the advertising world.
TGT set a high standard during its first season of ten episodes, averaging 1.25 million viewers per episode and debuting with the highest rating on ABC for an entertainment program, and lived up to the hype the second time round.
The show was divided into segments and one of the most popular was “The Pitch”, where advertising agencies were given an impossible concept to sell, with the results often shocking and always hilarious.
The show was brilliant, entertaining, humorous, witty, and a must-see for anyone interested in advertising, media or just some plain-old intelligent viewing. Episodes can be viewed on their website http://www.abc.net.au/tv/gruentransfer/default.htm.
