The fifth-season Lost finale is set to provide a number of mind-bending surprises and enough unanswered questions to keep viewers riveted for next season.

The two-part finale successfully ties up loose ends on the mysterious island, but it also provokes new questions about the fateful Oceanic Airlines crash and the subsequent events that have since taken place.

Lost exploded in 2004 with a thrilling first episode in which a plane travelling from Australia to Los Angeles crashed and left 48 survivors on an island with no apparent signs of rescue.

The latest finale will reward the show’s loyal followers with revelations such as the true identity of ‘Jacob’ and the genuine intentions of ‘Locke’, while the rest of the Lost inhabitants attempt to detonate a hydrogen bomb in hope of changing the future.

Season five has seen the show’s vast array of characters including those played by Matthew Fox, Michael Emerson, Josh Holloway, Evangeline Lilly and Terry O’Quinn deal with different realms of time and time travel.

Set on the Hawaiian isle of Oahu, the increasing saga of Lost will end next year, with season six the last for the show.

The finale airs on Australian television May 27, 2009.

Wow I can't believe they are dragging the show out for another season. They lost me season two.
