Leggings lead this season's fashion

This season's fashion sees hordes of the young and trendy purchasing leggings and if you’re thinking 80s flashbacks showing more skin you would be right on the money.

Leggings were once thought of as the only redemption for those struggling to conceal some unwanted kilos and lumps whilst Lycra leggings conjured up images of over the hill women showing off their curves in something they could “stretch” into.

This season leading fashion designers and critics are praising leggings as the way to have some fun with your wardrobe and hold the key to prime fashion status, with the more Lycra the better.

The craze even offers tips on what to look for when selecting a pair including a slightly higher-waisted V-shaped waistband to flatter your tummy line and a little bit of Lycra to help keep everything smooth.

Celebrities are being spotted and praised in leggings of all fabrics and colours including PVC, cotton, metallics, leopard, patterned and even a “wet look”.

The problem is that unlike celebrities who have stylists to navigate this fashion trend, people seem to be confusing leggings with stockings and seem to end up looking like a power ranger or hooker, not a trend setter. It is this issue that gave me the urge to tell many “fashionable” passersby that they had forgotten to put on their pants after noticing several people wearing leggings outlining and revealing their private parts.

Noted by many to provide “suck-it-in assistance”, I will  admit that  when I find a pair of leggings that make me look thinner than I am, I will buy them in every colour.
