Just another wizarding saga

Stormfront is the first novel in Jim Butcher's bestselling series, ‘The Dresden Files’.
The hero, Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, is a 21st century wizard – the only wizard in the Yellow Pages.
He offers private services as a detective, but is also hired as a consultant for the Chicago Police Department. Sometimes the two overlap.
Harry doesn’t make a lot of headway into original territory; most of his magic tools are the same, just given new names.
He’s a fairly fleshed character, bleak and sarcastic, and more from the John McClane (the popular Die Hard character) brand of hero than the untouchable and charming Sean Connery/James Bond style.
The supporting characters seem like a role call of sterotypes – the hardnosed and tough woman cop, her skeptic partner, a vampire who runs a brothel, and a persistent reporter.
The plot often moves at a hectic pace, at times too fast, and it leaves some small details untied.
However, it is an addictive read.
This shouldn’t be taken be taken any more than what it is: pulp fiction, and a nice way to waste a couple of afternoons.
