Immersion into a distant culture

What began as a distant vision evolved into a life changing experience as the vision of living half a world away from every normality became my reality.
Living amidst some of the most beautiful wildlife our earth has to offer is quite normal for those who consider friends their ‘mate’ and find that stress is nothing more than overrated.
However, for one who travels over 20 hours from a bustling city in the centre of the United States into a land full of kangaroos and koalas is surreal to say the least.
Study abroad on the Sunshine Coast is an experience that most international students find fulfilling for many common reasons such as the weather, the modern architecture, and the diverse travel. And while I have enjoyed such pleasures, I believe that studying abroad is about immersing oneself into the culture.
From the relaxed manner of the locals to the dedicated university professors, the coastal environment is one that exemplifies the true essence of life.
I believe that study abroad encourages aspiring students to achieve their academic potential while developing a sense of independence and resourcefulness.
A student must battle the everyday challenges of finding transportation to the grocery store, making friends with complete strangers, and adapting to the Australian educational system.
Such tasks will never be taken for granted again.
At the same time the memories made will last a lifetime, and the lessons learned will forever impact the future.
