Fleet Foxes released their second LP Helplessness Blues on 24 April, 2011, again choosing Phil Ek as producer as he was on their debut.

Their finely tuned folk sound emanates beautifully throughout this record, with their ever prominent vocal melodies sweeping through, completing and always reminding of that familiar fleet foxes brilliance.

There has been a departure from their self-titled debut album in that Helplessness Blues brings forth a sense of maturity and connectedness within the band, facilitating a completely natural sound maintaining the notion that it was crafted with such skill and ease.

If any criticism could be placed, it would be that the vocal melodies can be, at times, a little overpowering.

However this is outweighed by the sheer talent and range of the melodies accompanied with the beautifully crafted instrumentals.

Fleet foxes sophomore effort in Helplessness Blues is a required step forward to musical maturity to prevent stagnation and monotony within the band.
