Avatar- Worth the Wait?

The widely anticipated arrival of Avatar was met with awe and admiration as the audience was swept into the colourful array of James Cameron’s imagination.

The exuberant colour and majestic soundtrack left most of the children (and many adults, myself included) in the audience enviable of the life that leading actor Sam Worthington’s character lived.

Who wouldn’t want to spend their days running around in a loin cloth tackling gigantic birds?

However, the ‘new technology’ needed to make this fantasy adventure film, which took twenty years to invent, was the only real highlight of the movie as the acting was barely commendable.

Without the beautiful imagery created by the ‘new technology’ computer graphics,  the cliché, Fern Gully-like plot follows along the same lines as many other American films where a country or planet is invaded, the natives take a stand, and after a series of tragic and heart wrenching battles, the bad guys run away.

Despite the lack of originality, you leave the cinema with a smile on your face and a tingling down your spine... and as you get home you think of fishing out the old loin cloth stashed in the back of the closet.
